Critical Minerals in Namibia
Namibia is emerging as a strategic source of critical minerals that are essential for the global energy transition and advanced technologies, including lithium, graphite, tantalum, rare earth elements, and cobalt. These minerals are found in a variety of pegmatite and other geological settings, and ongoing exploration highlights the country’s potential to contribute to future supply chains.
Several projects demonstrate Namibia’s growing critical minerals portfolio. Andrada Mining is progressively developing its flagship Uis polymetallic project, where tin and tantalum production continues alongside efforts to expand into battery metals. Exploration programmes around Uis have returned encouraging intercepts of tin, lithium oxide, and tantalum mineralisation, and the company’s broader strategy includes advancing its lithium-focused licences and pilot programmes toward future production potential.
Operational enhancements at Uis, including the commissioning of a new jig processing plant and ongoing upgrades under Andrada’s continuous improvement programmes, have supported stronger output and increased resource throughput. The company is also progressing exploration and partner-funded drilling at its Lithium Ridge project, working to unlock further critical minerals value.
Beyond specific projects, Namibia hosts a broader suite of early-stage opportunities for critical minerals across the country, with ongoing exploration reflecting rising interest from both junior and established explorers. This growing activity underscores Namibia’s potential to become a key contributor in supplying minerals needed for electrification, energy storage, and next-generation technologies.
