The Erongo Regional Directorate of Education, Arts and Culture, in collaboration with the Swakopmund Municipality and the Namibian Uranium Association, as well as various other stakeholders, held its annual Career Fair from the 25th – 28th July. This year’s event was a road show, hoping to ensure that with this approach no learner is being left out. The roadshow took place in Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, Karibib and Omaruru.

The career fair roadshow was held under the theme ‘Revive Career Guidance’ and created a platform for higher learning institutions to exhibit and for corporate entities to share information on various careers and scholarship opportunities. The Namibian Uranium Association, Swakop Uranium, Rössing Uranium, Reptile Mineral Resources and Exploration and Orano Mining Namibia were among the 16 institutions that exhibited at the event.

The career fair also hosted presentations on stage, informing about careers, but also to motivate learners to create the right mindset. Some of the presenters included Johann van der Merwe from Reptile Mineral Resources and Exploration who spoke about “A day in the life of a safety professional”, Vistorin Amadhila and Rejoice Shilongo from Swakop Uranium, who respectively spoke about “Accounting as a career” and “Planning for your academic future – Life before and during university”. Discussions on mental health and emergency procedures were also held, aiming to prepare learners for a responsible adult life after school.

The Career Fair Roadshow was attended by 3425 learners in the four respective towns.
