It was a highlight of 2024 when Walvis Bay Salt recently celebrated its 60th birthday at the Walvis Bay Municipality Town Hall.
Andre Snyman, MD of Walvis Bay Salt, commented, “There were many challenges on the road to 60 years, but it must be noted that the significant milestones in the company’s history outnumber these setbacks by far.”
Unlike other mines, Walvis Bay Salt is an excellent example of a sustainable mine, without having an “end of mine” timeline.
Although Walvis Bay Salt is not the biggest employer in terms of job creation, the company provides work to various contracting companies in the town of Walvis Bay.
The Company, Walvis Bay Salt, through its various subsidiaries, is the largest producer of solar sea salt in sub-Saharan Africa. The Company processes 100 million cubic meters of seawater to produce more than 1,000,000 metric tons of high-quality salt per annum. The total operation covers an area of 5,000ha.
Walvis Bay Salt exports to various countries, including Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa and Europe. Namibia also exports on a regular basis to North America. The business is also the biggest exporter of product in terms of volume through the Port of Walvis Bay.
The vision of Walvis Bay Salt is to create sustainable prosperity for all stakeholders, by being a leading supplier of superior solar sea salt products, using technologically advanced processes and value adding service, through our skilled and committed staff.
