Bannerman Mining Resources Namibia recently recognised a significant leadership milestone, celebrating the outstanding career of Managing Director Werner Ewald following more than 15 years of dedicated service to the company and the Etango Uranium Project.
Over the course of his tenure, Werner has played a central role in guiding Etango through every phase of the uranium cycle, from early-stage development and challenging market conditions to a project now progressing towards a Final Investment Decision.
His leadership, resilience and long-term commitment have been instrumental in establishing Etango as one of the world’s most advanced uranium development projects and strengthening Bannerman’s presence within Namibia’s mining sector.
A Legacy of Leadership
Werner’s contribution has been characterised by discipline, perseverance and a deep understanding of both the project and the Namibian operating environment. These qualities have helped shape Bannerman’s strong in-country reputation and relationships across industry, government and local communities.
“The last 40+ years in the mining industry have been both rewarding and, at times, challenging through the commodity cycles. The people I have met along the way have made this journey very rewarding.
I would like to thank everyone for the support I have received – my colleagues, our stakeholders, our friends at the Chamber of Mines, those across the various government ministries, and importantly, the many service providers I have worked with over the years.
To my close family at Bannerman – thank you; the past few years have been very special. I wish you all the very best for the exciting time ahead.”
– Werner Ewald
While stepping back from his full-time executive responsibilities, Werner will continue to contribute to Bannerman in an ongoing capacity, including serving as a Director on the Bannerman Mining Resources Namibia Board.
His continued involvement ensures that his extensive experience and institutional knowledge remain an important asset as the Etango Project advances towards development.
Transitioning to the Next Chapter
Bannerman Energy Chief Executive Officer Gavin Chamberlain paid tribute to Werner’s significant contribution to both the company and Namibia’s mining industry.
“Werner’s contribution to Bannerman has not only helped guide the Company, but has also positively influenced many areas of the mining industry in Namibia.
I would like to thank him for his unwavering commitment and selfless approach to leadership, which have made him a respected figure in Bannerman’s development, the broader community, and the mining industry as a whole.
I am pleased that he has agreed to remain on our local Board and continue supporting key projects going forward. His wisdom and calm, level-headed approach to challenges will continue to benefit Bannerman.”
– Gavin Chamberlain, Chief Executive Officer, Bannerman Energy
As the company enters its next phase, Danie van Aswegen has assumed the role of Interim Chief Executive Officer, Namibia.
Danie brings more than 25 years of experience across the mining industry, with expertise spanning mining, engineering, project management and technology development.
Since joining Bannerman in late 2025, he has been closely involved in early works construction activities at Etango and is well positioned to provide strong leadership as the project continues to advance.
Safety Milestone Reflects Strong Project Culture
Alongside leadership developments, Bannerman achieved a significant operational milestone during the last quarter, recording one million Lost Time Injury (LTI)-free hours at the Etango Project.
This achievement reflects the strong safety culture embedded across the project and the commitment of every employee and contractor to maintaining a safe working environment.
More than a statistic, the milestone represents the discipline, planning and accountability required to ensure that every individual returns home safely each day.
- Structured safety management systems
- Continuous training and awareness programmes
- Strong workforce accountability
- A proactive approach to risk management
As project activity continues to increase, safety remains fundamental to how Etango is being developed in Namibia.
Positioning Etango for Development
Bannerman continues to focus on completing its strategic joint venture partnership with CNNC Overseas Limited, targeted for mid-2026.
The partnership represents a transformational milestone for the company and is expected to provide a fully funded, debt-free pathway to construction.
Once completed, the transaction will position the Etango Project to enter its next phase of development while strengthening Namibia’s position as a leading global uranium-producing nation.
With a strong leadership transition underway, a proven safety culture, and strategic partnerships advancing, Bannerman continues to build momentum towards the development of one of the world’s most significant uranium projects.
As Etango moves closer to development, Bannerman’s focus on leadership, safety and strategic partnerships continues to lay the foundation for long-term success and value creation in Namibia.
