Bannerman Mining Resources Namibia have celebrated an extraordinary achievement in workplace safety, marking 16 consecutive years without a Lost Time Injury (LTI). This significant milestone underscores the company’s unwavering commitment to its “Zero Harm” safety culture and the dedication of every employee.
Bannerman’s Managing Director, Mr. Werner Ewald shared: “While we celebrate this major achievement, we must also use it as motivation to keep the momentum going. Safety is a continuous effort, and our vision remains the same: to ensure everyone gets home healthy and safe, every single day.”
Reaching 16 years LTI-free represents a record of exceptional operational discipline and a shared commitment to the health and well-being of its workforce.
Mathew Alfeus, Health, Safety and Radiation Superintendent also added: “This is more than just a number; it’s a profound testament to the vigilance, teamwork, and professionalism of every person on the team. Maintaining this standard for 16 years particularly proves that the ‘Safety First, Every Day’ philosophy is deeply embedded in our day-to-day operations.”
This strong safety culture provides Bannerman with an important foundation as early works construction begins to ramp-up on site at Etango, with three new local Namibian contractors successfully establishing onsite.
Tulela Mining & Construction have been awarded Phase 1 and 2 contracts for the blasting of the heap leach drainage material, with the first blast of rock material taking place on 26 September 2025. The Phase 1 concrete contract for the construction of the primary crusher structure has been concluded with K Neumayer Civil Contractor. The most recent contract to be awarded is Phase 1 of the permanent water line, which has been awarded to AN Construction.
The award of these contracts enables job creation for local Namibians, and the workforce is expected to grow onsite from 120 to approximately 400 people in the next quarter.
In addition to these milestones, Bannerman has appointed Mr. Danie van Aswegan to the role of Chief Operating Officer – Namibia. Danie joins Bannerman from Debmarine Namibia and brings to the team over 25 years of experience in the mining industry.
Commenting on his appointment Danie shares: “I’m thrilled to join the Bannerman team at such a pivotal time, with the unique opportunity to help build a new mine from the ground up and guide it towards production. I see this as more than a project – it is an opportunity to help build something from scratch, to shape its success, and to leave a lasting legacy, something that deeply resonates with me.”
The team at Bannerman’s parent company Bannerman Energy continues to advance financing work streams for Etango, with this process advancing in line with overall project scheduling and requisite financial commitment.
