On the 22nd and 23rd November, the Chamber of Mines, Debmarine Namibia and B2Gold will be hosting the annual Inter-Mines Sports Games at the Vegkop Stadium in Windhoek. Following the success and impressive turn-out of the games in 2023, the organisers anticipate even more competition and action for this year’s event.
Last year’s games attracted 1,500 participants from mining operations all over the country, displaying an impressive level of skill and competition in all sports codes. The games were a weekend of fun for all families, friends, peers and colleagues, featuring loads of activities for them to participate in and show their support. The winners of the 2023 Games in the various sports codes were as follows:
- Soccer Active: Rӧssing Uranium B
- Soccer Veteran: Rosh Pinah Zinc
- Volley Ball: B2Gold
- Netball: Rosh Pinah Zinc
- Pool: Rӧssing Uranium
- Golf Teams: Rӧssing Uranium
- Golf – Singles: Samuel Kamutukwata (B2Gold)
- Chess: Jerry Omole (Swakop Uranium)
- Darts Singles: Stanley Seibeb (Swakop Uranium)
- Darts Doubles: Navachab – Leonard Madjidt & Abraham Petrus
This event holds a long legacy in the mining industry, and has become a renowned sports event to identify and develop national sporting talent across various disciplines. This year’s games promise exciting fixtures that include a wide range of sporting disciplines such as soccer, netball, chess, darts, relay and pool.
The Inter-Mines Sports Games is a highlight and a much-anticipated event on the mining fraternity’s calendar, where peers and colleagues build long-lasting friendships and relationships outside of work. It promotes a healthy work-life balance by encouraging competitors to become physically active and lead healthy lifestyles beyond the working environment.
