Omaruru residents and people living in surrounding areas now have better access to urgent medical care thanks to the donation of a new ambulance to the Omaruru District Hospital by Langer Heinrich Uranium (LHU) in December 2024.
Valued at approximately N$800,000, the fully fitted ambulance will serve the Omaruru community, ensuring better access to urgent medical care.
At the donation handover, the Governor of the Erongo Region, Hon. Neville Andre Iitope, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to LHU for its unwavering support of the local community since resuming production. He highlighted LHU’s commendable efforts in community support and lauded the company’s ongoing corporate social responsibility initiatives. He encouraged the staff at Omaruru District Hospital to take good care of the donated ambulance and commended them for their dedication in maintaining the hospital’s high standards.
Dr. Ashipala, the Chief Medical Officer of the Omaruru District Hospital highlighted how the ambulance will boost the hospital’s capacity to serve the community more effectively by ensuring that medical emergencies are attended to without delay. She thanked all stakeholders that were involved in making the donation possible and highlighted the Office of the Governor for facilitating the donation and LHU for providing the funding.
Johan Roux, Managing Director of LHU, expressed his gratitude to the Office of the Governor for the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the community. He reaffirmed LHU’s unwavering commitment to fostering a better and progressive community. Johan emphasized the event’s theme, “Hearts on Wheels,” noting its perfect alignment with the donation of an ambulance.
The community event was well attended by key stakeholders, including Erongo Regional Governor Hon. Neville Andre Itope, Regional Constituency Councillor Hon. Ernest Wetha, Regional Director of the Ministry of Health Dr. Anna Jonas, Dr. Beata Ashipala, Chief Medical Officer, as well as doctors, nurses, and other staff from Omaruru District Hospital. The event also saw the presence of numerous members of the Omaruru community and surrounding areas.
Since its return to production, LHU has remained committed to contributing to sustainable development in the community through robust stakeholder engagement and partnership.
