The Chamber of Mines and its members are gearing up for the annual Inter-Mines Sports Competition, with this year’s event scheduled to take place from 24th – 26th November. Rössing uranium mine will host this much-anticipated competition, which is taking place at the Dome in Swakopmund.
The Inter-Mines Sports Competition was once a traditional highlight on the calendar for Namibia’s mining industry, however, had to be discontinued due to the financial challenges experienced by the mines during the height of the global financial crisis. Last year, this event was re-introduced by Swakop Uranium, which has again become a collective industry effort that is being coordinated through the Chamber of Mines.
Every year, a different mining operation will have the privilege of hosting this renowned event.
The 2022 Inter-Mines Sports Competition was fully supported by mines in the Erongo region, with an impressive turnout. The victors of the 2022 games were as follows:
- Soccer Active and Soccer Veterans: Navachab
- Volleyball, Netball, and Pool: Swakop Uranium
- Chess and Darts: Rössing
The Inter-Mines Sports Competition is known for uniting professionals from mines across Namibia, building camaraderie among mining employees and creating opportunities for diverse networking and meaningful relationship building. The event also aims to encourage physical and mental wellbeing and a healthy work-life balance outside the immediate work environment.
This year’s games will boast a remarkable turnout, with more than 1,500 enthusiastic participants from mines all over Namibia. The contenders are ready to compete in a wide array of sporting disciplines, including soccer, golf, volleyball, netball, chess, darts, relay, and pool.
With a lineup of diverse sports disciplines, the Inter-Mines competition encourages professionals to not only excel in their careers but also maintain a healthy work-life balance and promote physical well-being.
