Namibia’s First Female President Visits Rössing Uranium

Less than a month after being sworn in as Namibia’s first female president, H.E. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah paid a courtesy visit to Rössing Uranium on April 12, 2025, underscoring her administration’s commitment to the mining sector. The visit aimed to strengthen her office’s understanding of the industry, allowing the president to share her vision while acknowledging the mine’s continued contributions.

In her address to Rössing’s leadership, President Nandi-Ndaitwah urged mining companies to translate Namibia’s resource wealth into tangible benefits for workers, youth, and local communities. “To fulfill my leadership vision and deliver on my mandate, I need all sectors, including mining, to uphold our promises of Unity in Diversity: Natural Resources Beneficiation and Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development,” she stated.

Before touring the mine, the Head of State commended Rössing Uranium for its impactful community initiatives across coastal towns and the nation at large. “This mine has upheld corporate social responsibility by supporting surrounding communities and maintaining sustainable operations. My visit today provides an opportunity to encourage you to continue contributing to our country’s socio-economic development,” she remarked.

The President’s engagement with Rössing Uranium reaffirms the strong stakeholder relationships between the mining industry and Namibia’s highest office, reinforcing a collaborative approach to national development.
