Paste 2025: The 27th International Conference on Paste, Thickened, and Filtered Tailings

The Australian Centre for Geomechanics is delighted to announce that the 27th International Conference on Paste, Thickened, and Filtered Tailings will be held from April 8–10, 2025, in Swakopmund, Namibia. This event marks the sixth time the conference will take place in Southern Africa, following previous sessions in Cape Town (2019, 2004), Pilanesberg (2001), Botswana (2008), and Rustenburg (2012). It has been more than five years since the last Paste conference in Africa, making this an eagerly anticipated return.

Southern Africa, being an arid and water-scarce region, has a strong motivation to explore and implement dewatering tailings strategies. Filtration has emerged as a crucial opportunity to enhance water balancing and improve mines’ overall water stewardship, thereby contributing to sustainable mining practices. Alongside the development of paste plant projects, there is increasing interest in underground paste backfill operations, thickened tailings, and dry stack tailings options.

This three-day conference will include technical workshops led by industry experts specializing in tailings management, thickened, paste, and filtered tailings, as well as underground backfill operations. The event is supported locally by collaborators such as Knight Piésold and the University of Stellenbosch, who aim to share technical knowledge, innovative solutions, and practical experience within the industry.

The conference is designed for technical managers, consultants, academics, operators, suppliers, and mining houses. Key themes to be explored include:

  • Rheology, Thickening, and Filtration
  • Emerging Issues and Technologies
  • Operations and Construction Case Studies
  • Surface Disposal
  • Transportation
  • Instrumentation and Monitoring of Tailings
  • Underground and Backfill

Join us at Paste 2025 to learn about innovations, performance, economics, and operational case studies in the field of tailings management. Stay tuned for further updates and detailed information.
