Reptile Mineral Resources and Exploration (Pty) Ltd (RMR) supplied two permanent toilets for 70 learners and teachers at the Grow Together Kindergarten in Swakopmund. RMR is committed to improving the health conditions of early childhood development through support at schools as part of its ongoing commitment to local communities.
The Grow Together Kindergarten is located in the Democratic Resettlement Community (DRC), on the outskirts of Swakopmund with a population of approximately 15,000 people, 80% of whom are unemployed and largely uneducated. This area has poor sanitation, no electricity and limited access to communal water points.
RMR’s contribution of two new water flush toilet units, equipped with wash basins and urinals, serviced from a freshwater tank, will have a lasting impact and will serve as a sustainable model due to its unique design. The current long drop system at the Kindergarten has also been modified and equipped so that smaller learners can make use of the facility.
Dr Katrin Kärner, Exploration Manager noted. “We are pleased to improve the health conditions at the Kindergarten and provide a lasting benefit for the learners and teachers, especially during these challenging times.”
