Rössing Uranium donates N$1.3 million for Arandis town hall and stadium renovations

Rössing Uranium donated N$1.3 million towards the renovations of the Arandis town hall and sports stadium and field.

The dilapidating town hall was inaugurated by Rössing Uranium in 1979, and has served the growing community to date. The Arandis community will also benefit from renovations to the sports stadium and field, which is aimed at creating safe areas for spectators and maximising use of the stadium.

Speaking at the handover event, Rössing Uranium’s General Manager for Human Capital, Safety and Sustainability, Liezl Davies, stated that Rössing remains committed to the development of Arandis as a community in which it operates.

“The historic successes of Rössing Uranium remains weaved in the fabric of the town of Arandis, a town born from the development of the mine. The relationship between Arandis and its people is one that Rössing Uranium never needed permission to maintain, and today’s event is a symbol that we as a mine will continue Working for Namibia, including Arandis,” said Davies.

Chairperson of the Arandis Town Council Management Committee, Cecilie //Hoabes, welcomed the donation and emphasised the benefit to the community of the newly renovated town hall and Sports Stadium.

“Through the renovation of our Town Hall, we will create a space that reflects the richness of our cultural heritage, a venue where local artists can showcase their talents, where our youth can engage in leadership programmes, and where significant civic discussions can take place. This revitalised space will serve as a beacon of hope and creativity, encouraging participation from all walks of life,” she said.

NIMT Arandis has been contracted to conduct the renovations and is expected to complete both projects by December 2025.
