Born in the Otjozondjupa Region many moons ago, Uparura Kuvare recently joined the Rössing Foundation as its new Executive Director (ED). Uparura replaces Job Tjiho who retired in August 2022 after having served at the Foundation for 27 years.
With over 20 years working in academia, the private and public sector, and for international development organizations, and leading national and international organisations and programmes, Uparura regards himself as a development practitioner who enjoys the outdoor life and family time.
“It’s an honour and privilege to be the Executive Director of Rössing Foundation, a legendary corporate investment name that positively contributed to the lives of many people. Without a doubt, the biggest attraction is to be associated with a renowned game changer in the improvement of people’s lives. I am excited for the opportunity to be part of an outstanding class of colleagues and partners to transform the Rössing Foundation and advance innovative solutions that will strengthen our efficiency as we bring greater resilience to the communities we serve”, Uparura said.
Adding that he remains committed to building upon the RF’s strong reputation for advancing true community development initiatives and partnering with other actors to address the complex challenges amongst our communities.
The Rössing Foundation was established in 1978 by Rössing Uranium Limited through a Deed of Trust to implement and facilitate corporate social responsibility activities within the communities of Namibia, and has become a legacy in the mining industry contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.
The Rössing Foundation undertakes a broad range of activities across a wide spectrum of community development areas. The Foundation concentrates its activities mainly within the Erongo Region and to a lesser extent in the Oshana, and Omaheke Regions.
