On 28 October 2024, Sinomine Tsumeb Community Trust hosted a closing ceremony for the Math and Science Clinic programme launched on 29 April 2024 in Tsumeb.

“The primary objective of the Tsumeb Mathematics and Science Clinic is to enhance academic performance among grade 11 and 12 AS Level learners in Tsumeb schools, with the focus on math and science subjects”, said Max Johnson, Sinomine Tsumeb Smelter Community Trust Chairperson.

In addition to the successful completion of the clinic, Sinomine Director: Administration, David Hou, handed over laptops, smart TVs and laboratory items to the Directorate of Education Oshikoto. The items were received by Aletta Eises Thanises, Director of Education: Oshikoto Region, and a few learners from different schools in Tsumeb at the closing ceremony. The items are part of the N$ 500,000sponsorship to the Math and Science Clinic program. Hou further stated that even though the initial sponsorship was by the previous owners of the Tsumeb Smelter, Sinomine Tsumeb Smelter is committed to continue support the education sector.

Thanises, confirmed that for years the Oshikoto region was a top performer when it came to final examination results in grade 10, and expressed hopes the region will maintain its performance rankings.

Sinomine Tsumeb Community Trust is committed to supporting this initiative in collaboration with UNAM’s José Eduardo dos Santos Campus and the Oshikoto Directorate of Education’s Tsumeb Teachers Resource Centre.

Learners from all the schools in Tsumeb that participated in the clinic sessions unanimously praised the clinic for its transformative impact on their educational journey, underscoring the lasting benefits it provides.
