Dear valued readers,

It is with great honor and excitement that I extend my warmest greetings to all of you on the occasion of the 10th 2023 Mining Expo & Conference which is happening in just a few days’ time. As the CEO of the Chamber of Mines of Namibia, I am thrilled to welcome you to this momentous event, an extraordinary platform that brings Namibia’s mining sector closer to the heart of our nation – its people.

Scheduled to take place on the 30th and 31st of August, the 2023 Mining Expo & Conference is completely free of charge to the public, reflecting our industry’s commitment to openly engaging and including our fellow citizens.

Thanks to the generous contribution by RMB as our anchor sponsor for this event, the Chamber of Mines has been able to bring more value to its exhibitors and visitors through the Mining Expo mobile application, the dedicated Supplier’s platform for exhibitors to present their goods and services, as well as business-to-business meetings. This year’s event is proudly supported by our secondary sponsors,Continental Lithium Africa and Andrada Mining.

The theme for this year’s conference, “Namibia’s Role in the Sustainable Supply of Minerals to Support the Global Energy Transition,” holds profound significance, underscoring our industry’s pivotal role in the sustainable energy transition, both locally and across the world.

At the core of this Expo are four fundamental objectives, each embodying our unwavering dedication to progress, inclusivity, and empowering the nation:

  1. Showcase the Namibian mining industry to Namibian citizens: The 2023 Mining Expo & Conference provides a rare opportunity for every Namibian citizen to witness the remarkable achievements, advancements, and potential within our mining sector. From responsible practices to cutting-edge technologies, this event showcases the industry’s commitment to sustainable development and responsible stewardship of our natural resources.
  2. Present and discuss industry contributions by assessing the mining sector’s positive impact on the Namibian economy while addressing the challenges it faces: In parallel to the Mining Expo, we also host the Mining Conference which serves as a platform for meaningful dialogue and debate on current issues relevant to Namibia’s mining sector. This year, the conference programme encompasses a wide range of pertinent topics on Namibia’s mining sector, including an overview of the industry, current debates on policy and legislation, and how Namibia’s resource endowment can support the global energy transition.
  3. Engage with stakeholders on business opportunities in the mining industry, particularly local suppliers and contractors: Central to our vision of a thriving mining sector is the empowerment of local businesses and communities. The 2023 Mining Expo & Conference provides a platform for stakeholders to engage, explore opportunities, and forge partnerships that strengthen the supply chain and drive local content objectives. Together, we can unlock the full potential of our industry, fostering economic growth and development across the nation.
  4. Promote careers in the mining sector by encouraging the youth and professionals to consider rewarding and diverse career paths within the mining industry: The future of our industry rests on the shoulders of a skilled and passionate workforce. This Expo advocates for careers in mining, inspiring the youth and professionals to embrace the vast and rewarding opportunities within our sector.

In conclusion, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all partners, sponsors, exhibitors, and participants for their unwavering support in making the 2023 Mining Expo & Conference a reality. Your presence and active engagement will undoubtedly pave the way for a brighter, more sustainable future for the mining sector and our beloved nation.
